About the Location

We are running this special edition Entrepreneurship Community Hub in Johor Bahru, Southern Malaysia.

AN URBAN OASIS

The event will be located in Iskandar - the most modern part of Johor Bahru and one fo the busiest business hubs in Malaysia, strategically situated right next to Singapore, synonymous with world-class enterprise, financial success, and... great FUN!

And although everything is buzzing and bustling with activity there, Iskandar is also known for green unobstructed space, which is a very unique feature for most of SE Asia. An urban oasis full of parks, palm trees, and hectares of jungles which will soothe your eyes and your mind everywhere you go.

With top-class accommodation, access to numerous adventure parks and sports facilities, and excellent modern infrastructure, Iskandar provides great value and plenty of opportunities for teenage world-schoolers who crave for connection with the modern world and at the same time need a relaxing and casual lifestyle.

RECREATION, FUN & ADVENTURE

Iskandar is a great place for entrepreneurial hubs because the region is already business-driven and vision-oriented, and the spirit of entrepreneurship and opportunities can be felt and easily explored there.

At the same time, the area is a gateway to fun for young people - with a Legoland theme park and waterpark, outdoor adventure parks, horse riding and cycling, recreational parks with lakes, skating rinks, and rock climbing and bouldering places within an easy reach.

ISKANDAR MEDINI -  PROMOTING COMMUNITY BUILDING

Our hub HQ will be located in the Iskandar Medini area - close to the Legoland Theme Park and within a 5 minute-drive from Puteri Harbour, Sunway Citrine Redbox and Adventure Park, and newly opened Eco Park.

For best experience for your teenagers, and for easy access to everything Iskandar Medini offers, we recommend booking your accommodation in the Legoland area. You can find excellent-value-for-money choices with amazing facilities for your entire family to enjoy.

Iskandar Medini is a great place to hang out for older teenagers promoting independence and community building - the area is walkable and young people can safely reach places of interest on foot or by Grab - the best local e-hailing service. And it's within a walking distance from Legoland and Medini Mall with restaurants, supermarkets, and shaded outdoor areas.

WORLD CLASS FACILITIES AND ATTRACTIONS

Puteri Harbour with a long promenade, a Danga Bay Beach with white sand, and Johor Bahru City Centre are within an easy reach too.

With Singapore just across the bridge, young people and their families can take day trips and take advantage of the world-class outdoor facilities, fantastic theme parks, museums, zoos, and the famous Sentosa Island where you can cross a hanging bridge to reach the most southern tip of the South-East Asia mainland for a fantastic view over the bay towards the ocean.

Excellent, abundant and affordable food choices will await you at every corner, people are friendly and welcoming, and in Malaysia English is widely spoken.

Community-Oriented

Our Teen-Led Community Building Hub is for world-schooled and unschooled teenagers who are craving meaningful relationships.

Perfect for young minds who prefer to share their lives with like-minded peers, build long-lasting bonds while on the go, and are ready to step in to co-creating with others.

Our hub is meant to offer a sense of grounding, rooting, and comfort - everything that young people may miss while travelling for long periods of time.

Created with Unschoolers in Mind

This Entrepreneurial Teen-Led Hub offers a flexible framework with interest-based self-governed clubs, weekly missions, projects and challenges that will help your teenage kids learn how to lead others with confidence and in line with their own individual needs and preferences.

Our Teen-Governed Hubs are created to help young people continue their learning journey in a way that they have always done, which is unschooling and self-directed pathway, with confidence that this kind of learning will help them achieve their dreams, live successful life, and create passion and mission-oriented careers or businesses.

That is why our hubs do not offer structured classes or academically oriented activities. Instead, the core of the project is based on various interest and activity clubs running continuously throughout the entire duration of the hub - all led and governed by teenagers themselves. Our role as facilitators is to guide and support them as/when needed.

Future-Oriented Educational Framework

Our hub offers a specially crafted Leadership Framework with 6 Key Focus Areas that are particularly important for older teenagers at this stage of their lives.

Six Key Focus Areas:

1. Me & My Talents

2. Community Building

3. Leadership & Teamwork

4. Entrepreneurship & Mission

5. Positive Relationships

6. Personal Health & Wellbeing

These Key Focus Areas will be supported throughout the entire duration of the hub through three different pathways:

- Entrepreneurial Pathway

- teen-governed weekly Interest Clubs

- location-related Cultural Immersion Theme

The Leadership Framework will be embedded in daily activities, Interest Clubs, Discussion Groups, Weekly Missions and Challenges, Community Building Activities, and Self-Reflection Tools. Additionally, young participants will have a chance to expand on these 6 Key Focus Areas through outings, exploration, trips and together-time planned and organised by themselves in their free time.

Interest Clubs

These self-governed interest-based clubs will not only aim at exploring passions and interests, but will give teenagers a great chance to manage the day-to-day operations of their clubs, decide about their format, structure, content and flow through teamwork and collaboration.

Examples of interest clubs: Sports & Fitness, Books & Music, Dance, Public Speaking, Politics & Current Affairs, How to Solve World's Biggest Problems, Arts & Crafts, Science and Technology, etc.

Entrepreneurial Education Pathway

Our teen-led hub offers an empowering Entrepreneurial Education Pathway - facilitated weekly mentoring meetings to introduce teenagers to the world of business and nurture their entrepreneurial spirit.

Your teenagers will work together to:

  • discover, explore, and celebrate their natural talents,

  • find their inner calling,

  • manage and run projects together,

  • discuss successes and failures of popular business ventures,

  • understand the world of marketing, product design, customer experience, and client's perspective

  • and perhaps even come up with their own business ideas!

Our Entrepreneurial Education Pathway is a Premium Product

  • £950.00

This fee is for one teenage participant for full 8 weeks.
If you have more teenage children and would like to enrol them too, you'll get 60% discount on each additional enrolment.

Location-Related Cultural Immersion Theme

This pathway aims at understanding unique aspects of the local culture, geography and customs through direct exploration and hands-on projects. When possible, it will include taking part in local festivities, authentic experiences, and naturally occurring interactions.

Suggested Hub Agenda

Our hub has a flexible agenda that supports Self-Directed Learning and offers plenty of space for relaxation, social time, and personal activities.

INTEREST-BASED SOCIAL CLUBS

There will be club activities once a day for 1-2 hours depending on participants’ needs.

  • Agenda and learning goals for each club will be decided by and discussed with teenagers, and will be adjusted accordingly on a weekly basis.

  •  Each club will have its own leader to oversee daily operations of the club and to liaise between hub organisers and participants.

  • Clubs will be organised around the Iskandar Puteri - Medini Township vicinity area for easy access with some exceptions such as Gardening Club or Sports Club that may require different or changing venues for better and more varied experience. They will still take place within a 10-min ride from the main hub centre.

ENTREPRENEURIAL MENTORING & TRAINING

  • Weekly visits to local businesses followed by brainstorming, discussion and mentoring sessions to directly experience business operations, form customer experience opinion, interview owners and managers (when possible), and discuss findings and observations with training facilitators.

  • Participants will receive educational resources and materials to support their journey, and they will work on projects together based on their experience and topics covered. During the week they will work on their Portfolios by themselves or in groups/teams if they prefer.

All experiences are designed with unschoolers and self-directed learners in mind.

Guest Appearance

Five years ago during our stay in Kuala Lumpur we met an amazing worldschooling family. We connected very easily and spent really nice time together - played The Settlers of Catan while discussing our family roots, did some serious laser tagging, attended batik painting sessions, and enjoyed some pool time together!

We haven’t seen each other for 5 years, but when people share similar values, the world has surprising ways to bring you together again. The Zingg family will be joining our Entrepreneurship Hub in Malaysia!

We became so excited when we read the info on the Teen-led Entrepreneurial Hub in Johor Bahru.  It was exactly what we had been hoping for, but hadn’t quite come across.  Older teens…LED by teens…an affordable location right across from Singapore; our daughter stopped talking about getting a job and a car back home, and said, “We have to do this.”

The Zingg family will be sharing their experience with us all during the hub adding another valuable layer to the entire concept!

Adam Zingg, a business college professor, offered to pitch in with his experience and we will be incorporating his unique angle and knowledge on finance, investments, strategic management, economics and recruitment into the hub activities.

Their son, Luke, is in college now, but their daughter Serenna (16) continues to travel with the family.  Serenna is a gifted writer; she is helping co-author an online course for teens and young adults on life and business strategy. She’s a go-getter, never-stop-learning, goal-setting kind of girl.  She has a heart for righting injustices in the animal and human world.  Lindsay is a course editor and videographer.

We are very excited to create an unforgettable experience for teens and families together with the Zingg family in Malaysia this April!

We can’t wait to see what special gifts

your family will bring to this unique event!
